Kurfurstendamm is probably Berlin’s most lively and famous shopping area. We took some photos of different branding examples in restaurants and shops from small touches to the outright luxurious!

Luxurious brands showcase best-sellers in display cabinets on the high street of Kurfurstendamm (a 4km stretch of avenue in Charlottenburg).
We loved the ceramic Chiwawa & Grey Hound heads in Koko Von Knebel; a shop exclusively for dog accessories!

We came across this weird but wonderful vegetable called Romanesco broccoli. It looks a bit like something you’d find at the bottom of the sea! We’ve been told its best eaten steamed, chopped up into little bits and eaten with garlic, chilli and olive oil….

We can’t wait to visit the Royal College of Art this weekend for their annual Ceramic Art Fair. There will be studio pottery and sculpture from 75 of London’s leading ceramic artist available for purchase.
The exhibition got us thinking….There has been a distinctive shift in attitude towards ornamental art… you can see this by visiting your local high street where retailers have recognised the need for ‘art at home’ and displays are choking with mass-produced table sculptures and room accents.
We think art should be accessible to all and perhaps it does not matter if people don’t appreciate anything more than the visual pleasure of their purchase. But can you call mass-produced ornaments art or products? If a product, could this mean that art is catching up with the fashion world and becoming increasingly disposable?
If anything, surely the highstreet has raised public awareness for the need of ’handmade’ product or ‘original’ painting? And with an increasingly aware and conscious public could this encourage people to visit more second-hand shops and boutiques for original art?
Next time you are looking for something unique and original for your home why not try find out where your local ceramic studio is? Or support your college or University students by purchasing an original piece of art. This work is often the most unique and inspirational and is usually agreed at an affordable price. What can be better than meeting the person behind the art who will probably divulge their inspirations and techniques!
